MAKÜ Gastronomy Students Selected as 'University Team of the Year'

Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ) Faculty of Tourism Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department students achieved many successes, including the “Best University Team Competition of the Year” award, at the “Gastro Antalya 2024: International Gastronomy and Culinary Stars Meeting” event held in Antalya between November 14-17, 2024.
Under the guidance of Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department faculty member Lecturer İlhan Avcu, our Faculty students participated in the competition and won the first prize in the Best University Team Competition of the Year with their outstanding performance. With this prestigious award, they won medals and a trophy, becoming the pride of MAKÜ.
They Reached the Summit in International Competition
In the international gastronomy competition attended by famous chefs from 40 countries around the world and 4000 participants, MAKÜ students showcased their talents by competing in four different categories: Hikmet Özel won a gold medal in the “Student Chef Restaurant Dessert” category, while Can Arman achieved a gold medal in the “University Student Chef Fish Competition” category. Furkan Yılmaz, Mustafa Ertuğrul Uraz, and Nesibe Halenur Al achieved first place in the “Modern Turkish Cuisine Team Competition” and “Best University Team Competition of the Year” categories, winning a gold medal and trophy.
MAKÜ is Training the Chefs of the Future
Lecturer İlhan Avcu, who made a statement about this achievement, expressed that their students won these awards thanks to their disciplined work and innovative approaches. Avcu said, “This pride is not only the result of our students but also of our university's vision. We will continue to train the chefs of the future.”
With this great success achieved in Antalya, MAKÜ Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department students made a name for themselves both nationally and internationally, ensuring that Turkey is strongly represented in the field of culinary arts on the international stage.
